Celebrating the life of

Henry Arthur Spencer

Passed away on October 12, 2025

Henry Arthur Spencer

Henry Arthur Spencer, known to all as "Hank," passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025, after a very brief illness.  Hank was born on February 16, 1950, in Trieste, Italy, to the late Elsa Vianelli Spencer. As the son of Command Sergeant Major Edward Spencer, he was raised in numerous Army bases around the world before being graduated from Heidelberg High School in Heidelberg, Germany.  Following his graduation, he continued his family's tradition of military service and joined the United States Marine Corps.  While serving in Vietnam, he served with the utmost valor and distinction. He was awarded two Purple Hearts, a Silver Star, and countless other awards and commendations.

After leaving active duty, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Technology from the University of Central Missouri. Upon graduation he returned to active duty and served in the Marine Corps as an aviator until his retirement at the rank of Major.  He settled in Savannah, GA, where he served as a JROTC Instructor, as the Fuel Manager at the Savannah Airport, and as the director of the Hinesville campus of Columbia College of Missouri.

While he had many roles throughout his life, he cherished none the way he did as that of a US Marine.  He was a Marine through and through and would have served every day of his 75 year life if that were allowed.

Preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by his beloved wife of the last three decades, Janet Cameron Spencer, with whom he spent the most joyous years of his life.

He is also survived by his children: Travis Spencer (Brooke), Kelly Bragg (Curtis), and Cori Genin (Daniel), stepsons; Brendan Mullen and Hunter Mullen; and grandchildren; Tanner Spencer (Sidney) Izabel Spencer, Nolan Spencer, Nash Spencer; Meredith Bragg, Mariella Bragg, Marshall Bragg; Nathan Genin, Winnie Genin, Willow Genin, and Colin Mullen.

A service will be held at the Marine Corps Memorial located at 1 W Gaston Street at 11:00 on November 10, 2025.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
